Dr. Matthew Free

About Me:

I have devoted my career to the treatment of OCD and anxiety-related disorders. It is a gratifying time to be in this field, as recent decades have brought remarkable advancements in therapeutic methods for a broad range of psychological conditions. People used to engage in long-term therapy, often believing that improving symptoms and making changes required many years of work. Over the years, however, data from thousands of research participants have led to improvements in treatments, enabling people to experience meaningful progress in shorter periods of time. Treatments are now better than ever! By teaching modern therapy techniques to our patients, we can often help people make rapid progress. It was with this in mind that I helped found Proven Pathways Psychotherapy. At Proven Pathways, my role is largely administrative. I focus on recruiting and training staff in evidence-based treatments for anxiety and providing case consultation. I am also passionate about community outreach, ensuring that those in need are aware of and can access effective treatment options.

Case Consultation:

As therapists, we often encounter cases that challenge our clinical skills and knowledge. It is not uncommon to feel stuck or uncertain when faced with complex client presentations, particularly in the treatment of anxiety and OCD. In such instances, seeking guidance can be invaluable. I offer complimentary phone consultation for therapists who are looking for a second opinion or advice about how to proceed with treatment. I also offer ongoing case consultation for psychologists and therapists who want advanced training. Please contact me to discuss rates.

Community Outreach and Continuing Education:

According to the International OCD Foundation, it takes up to 17 years on average for people with OCD to receive evidence-based treatment after symptoms start. This is a troubling statistic given how debilitating OCD can be. I am committed to increasing access to quality care by providing trainings for providers across Ohio. I am especially interested in partnering with organizations that work with underserved populations and private practices that accept Medicaid or Tricare. For such organizations, I am willing to provide continuing education trainings from 4-8 hours at no charge. If you or your practice is interested in continuing education for OCD and severe anxiety disorders, please contact me for rates. Trainings typically range from two hours to two days.

Clinical Supervision:

I am accepting graduate trainees for the 2025/2026 school year. If you are currently enrolled in a doctoral program and interested in receiving specialized training in evidence-based treatment of OCD and anxiety, please get in touch!
