Dr. Laren Conklin
About Me:
I have focused on providing high-quality evidence-based care to my clients for the past 17 years. I have spent my career building knowledge and expertise in multiple treatments and have worked with a variety of adult clients over the years, including those with a range of ages; racial, ethnic, and spiritual backgrounds; and those with a military background or in the LGBTQIA+ community. I provide a warm and encouraging environment to work together in active collaboration. I help my clients foster hope and resilience to overcome life’s challenges. I am especially good at helping clients identify the goals that would provide them with the biggest meaningful changes to their lives and build their knowledge of how to improve and sustain emotional health and life satisfaction. For clients who have already been in therapy before, we identify what worked well and what did not in order to forge a new path. I have a great deal of experience helping clients who have faced a number of challenges in their lives and have multiple struggles they are facing, for instance co-occurring depression, anxiety, anger, and/or PTSD. Often these concerns are impacting work, school, family, hobbies, and other important domains of life, and we will help you make improvements in these areas as part of the process of feeling better.
Academic and Professional Background:
I completed my doctorate in clinical psychology at The Ohio State University. I then spent two years at Boston University at the Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders working with Dr. David Barlow, one of the foremost experts in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for anxiety and co-occurring conditions. I then spent the last nine years at the Columbus VA providing care to Veterans of all backgrounds and presenting concerns.
I very much value contributing to the psychological community to help improve knowledge and access to high-quality psychotherapy. During my years, I have shared my expertise through training students and clinicians, publishing psychotherapy research, and contributing to books focused on evidence-based psychotherapies. I am an expert trainer for the Unified Protocol for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders, a cognitive behavioral psychotherapy designed to treat multiple conditions by focusing on core challenges and struggles with emotions.
